In DNN 4.5.3 the code was changed for the Account Login module to hide it completely if you are logged in.

This has the undesireable side affect of not letting you see it when you add it to the page.

To be able to see it, so you can change settings, move or delete it, you can switch to Design Mode.

I personally think that the module should have been left visible when logged in, because as an administrator you can decide for yourself if you want to make it only visible to unauthenticated users.

How does one change to 'design mode'?

Do you mean in the upper left corner, switch to Mode: View?

If so, I did and that did not do the trick for me

Design Mode is in the upper left of the expanded control panel.

Thanks John, that worked.

One more question...

If I click the Login button below the menu, and I log in or test the 'Forgot Password' option, all works as it should.

If I manually add a login module to the home page, when I test the login functionality, the page only posts back and does not login. The same content is redisplayed.

Same goes for testing the 'Forgot Password' option.

Is it possible something went wrong during the installation process? I did not get any warnings. Should I uninstall and reinstall the module?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Frank

Never mind, I figured it out. I had changed the cache setting for the module to 1200. When I change it back to 0, it works.

That's good info Frank. Don't cache the Account Login Module.

If you want to change this behaviour yourself, you can do it in the file at /admin/Security/SignIn.ascx.vb

Look for this on line 503:

ContainerControl.Visible = False

And change it to this:

                    If Not DotNetNuke.Security.Permissions.TabPermissionController.HasTabPermission("EDIT") Then
                        ContainerControl.Visible = False
                    end if

There is also an issue logged here:

John:

I made this change to the file, however it still doesn't seem to fix the problem.

Do I have to re-compile something ?

No re-compile is needed. This change will keep the module from becoming invisible when you are logged in as admin, is that the problem you are still having?

Yes that is the problem I'm still having, but I resolved it a different way.

I copied the account login module from a DNN 4.04.01 instance over the top of the one in DNN 04.05.03 and all is well.

...tried to search for a fix to this problem in the DNN forums, but, well, you know. Thankfully Google works more than 14% of the time. Thanks, guys.

Is there a place where old DNN module versions go to die?  I, too, would like to try the old version that you had success installing over the top to get it to display. :)

One SignIn.ascx & One SignIn.ascx.vb from version 4.4.1 coming right up!

It's attatched to this post. :)

Older versions of DNN can be found at the following link:

I don't care what Swoop says about you; you, sir, are the man! Thanks.

Seems the issue is not fully resolved in 4.6.2. I am having the same issues described in this post, however, none of the suggested solutions work. The code change above would now seem to apply to \admin\Authentication\Login.ascx.vb, however the suggested change exists in the current code.
