| Seems that DotNetNuke has had a problem with exporting and importing templates in recent versions. I don't use this feature, but I came across a thread in the DotNetNuke Forums and after discussing with Nina Meiers I found out it has been broken for quite a while. Anyway, it was a pretty easy fix, just needed to add some new nodes to the Schema. I have made that schema available and attached it to this post. After downloading, just overwrite the same file in the /admin/portal folder. Portal Template Validator | | | |

| Yes, this should make a template from a current release work on an older version of DNN, but if you go back too far then the database may not be able to handle some of the information from the newer versions. | | | |

| So, this individual file will work for ANY template I create and not just the default "portal" template? No other configuration needed on my part for any portal templates I create? | | | |

| Yes, this file is the one used to validate the templates when you import them. It has been updated so that the newer exports are also valid. | | | |

| Hi John, Do you think this fix is still needed for 4.62? I've just now upgraded and am going through the list of things I need to fix up. Winmerge tells me that 4.55 to 4.62 has only brought one change with it at line83
Everything else seems to be the same as 4.55

| No, I don't think it is needed anymore. I was able to create a template in 4.6.2 and reuse it when creating a child portal so I think they have it fixed. | | | |

| Hi John,
the link in the original post appears to be broken. Is the file still available?
Best regards,

| I looked and couldn't find it. You should be able to use the xsl validator from a version 4.6.2 or later in earlier versions though. | | | |

| Hi John, many thanks for looking.
I copied the {root}/admin/portal/portal.template.xsd file from a new DNN 4.8 installation and copied it into my DNN 4.5 installation, in the same location, and then Site Wizard was able to import the portal template file I had previously created. :D
Many thanks for the post and the reply.
Best regards,
Alan | | | |

| I don't have the file any longer, but what you can do is use the template file from a later version of DNN. This problem was corrected in DNN. | | | |
