Hi John,

My portal currently experiences a very weird error and it greatly affects usablility.

That is, when I click "Update" in Host Settings or click "Install New Module" in Module Definition or click "Create Portal", the request never completes and always times out, although the actions are still carried out (Settings are updated, Module is installed, Portal is created).

While the request is being executed, the site can not be accessed from anywhere (confirmed through Alertra).

The portal's database is on an independent server. This problem seems to happen right after I upgrade to DNN 4.8.2

Could you please help me with this? I have full control over my IIS (6.0)

Regards,

Duc

Hi Duc,
I'm sorry I missed this. Did you get it worked out?

Hi John, thanks for replying.

I finally decided to start a completely new installation (en.pijaja.com). However, as more portals are created, the errors above start to appear. Now I can still update Host Settings, but Installing Module will never complete, even with a light-weight module (50KB)

I assume that this is caused by threading limitation from my database, as it is placed on a remote server. But what I don't understand is that why this only happens after more sub-portals are created. How can it affect the module installation progress?

Regards,

Duc

P.S: in the error log, I get different messages, one of them is:

I think you are just having trouble with connectivity and/or performance of your database server.  It is most likely the DB server that is too busy to answer in time.

If it is related to adding more sub-portals then you may want to try turning off search indexing or other jobs that may be overloading the DB server.

Thanks John,

That's what I assume too.

But I have turned off the Site Log and all Scheduler tasks. Can anything else overlead the db server?

Duc

The scheduler is usually the culprit, but it could be a module that has some long running queries.
I usually just run a trace on the DB with SQL profiler to try and find out what may be causing it to timeout.

Since my db is in a shared server, I can't perform a trace easily, so I'll try to replicate the environment in my localhost w/ MSSQL 2000.

Can you please explain the trace process more closely? I am totally inexperienced in this field.

Much appreciated,

Duc

Here is a good tutorial on Tracing with the SQL Profiler

I'm having the same problems after I upgraded to 4.8.2
I also thought the problem was causes by performance issues. So I tried a new machine, unfortunatily without success.

Right now I can't add new portals, so I'm having a serious issue.
Does anyone find a solution for the problem or know where to look for a solution.
I checked support.dotnetnuke.com and send mail to some core members but without succes.

I assume more people have this problem, please help?????
