I would like to set several text/html modules to syndicate.  I was testing this and noticed that where it displays only the module title.  Is there a way to have it show a teaser?  The first 100 characters or something like that?

The default Text/Html module publishes it's RSS through the core DNN RSS feed which is very lacking.  It puts the Portal's description text (or the portal name if there is no description) in the description field of the RSS.

I would recommend getting a good News Articles or maybe even NukeSyndicate.

There are probably some free modules out there that are better than the core ones too.
