setting page and module permissions

So far it looks like the only way to set permissions on pages and modules is by security roles. Is there a way to set permissions to an individual? We are going to have pages on our site that individuals will have access to and we'd prefer to not have to create a security role for each user. Like in the security area where you click the checkboxes, it would be nice if there was a ddl of all users to allow for an indivual to be selected and then check view or edit. Would that be "easy" to code in?

Sorry, there isn't a way to set by specifc user, and it would not be an easy code change, but it is a good suggestion for an enhancement. Instead of creating a role for each user, I would create the role for the function the user performs even if it only applies to a single page, because as time goes on you will probably want to give at least a few of these users access to edit the same page. You could also create your role using the page name.

OK... so a high school is going to have a site and the admin there wants each teacher to have a page with child pages. he would like each teacher to be the only ones able to edit their pages. Is this a bad idea? Or an ok idea and we just create a security role for each teacher that is going to participate?
