Hello John

Thanks for all the assistance you have given me in the past.

I have tried to find the answer to this avoidable problem elsewhere, but so far a solution has not been found.

A while ago I was trying out a new skin intended specificially for my login page, as I found that my default login was using the skin of the  page last visited, which was not always suitable.  I created a login page with new skin and made it visible as a temporary measure (to ensure login access whilst testing) prior to specifying the login page in Site Settings>>Advanced>>Login Page. Intending to hide login page later.

I then discovered the login page was not only still using the skin from the previous page but also the page settings.  Which made it impossible to delete or hide as this would consequently also effect the associated page as I later found.  I still had not edited the login page settings in the 'site settings', so original login links are still working in paralell.

I am stuck with the extra login. But the problem is I cannot remove it from my menu bar, it has locked itself in place and will not shift across.  Further I have since found that I am also unable to move the normal parent menu links left or right as I think that the extra login has locked all the tabs in the menu bar.  Whilst viewing Admin>>Pages I see that I have 2 Login pages, when viewing page settings of either login they both show Home page setttings.

Do you happen to know of a solution?

Thanks

Lynn

Hi Lynn,

I think for the first part, you may not realize that the login control is considered an "admin" control so it will use the skin assigned for admin skin in the page settings.

If you have a new login page now that you want to remove, make sure that your login page is set to "not specified" first and then delete the login page. Also remove it from the recycle bin.

You may just want to keep the login page but make it invisible.

Also, if it seems you can't move the page in the Admin >Pages control, then you may just be seeing a long time bug in DNN where it's order is out of sync. You can make it move by repeatedly trying to move it which will increase or descreas the actual order number even if you don't see it move in the list. If you keep going it will move eventually.

A faster way of making it change position it to just go to the page settings and assign it's parent tab setting to another tab. Then go back to Admin Pages and it will probably move normally in the list with the up and down buttons.

Hi John

Thanks for your swift and informative reply as always. This is the first suggestion that a resolve may actually be in sight.

No I did not know that the login control is considered as "admin" control and I don't think my login control knows it either. Because it has ignored using the admin skin which is currently set to DNN Default Blue and instead the login is wearing the homepage skin and using the homepage settings.

Although my login is set to "not specified" I have tried to delete 'login page' and found I have unwittingly deleted the "home page" disguised as the login. But then 'login' just pops up again mockingly wearing the skin of the next parent page along. But more tormenting is the revamped login assumes the page settings of the newly occupied host page, consequently re-deleting 'login' results in deleting 'host page' only. Login always survives, it's like playing 'pass the "Login" parcel', all pages must be removed before the 'real login page' is revealed.

Thanks for the tip regarding Admin>Page control, I thought the problem was due to the 'login' page locking the menu tabs.

Thanks

Lynn
