Just wondering how you incorporated the Google Ads within Acitve Forums and do you mind sharing how you did it?  I like how small they are and I could save my left & right panels for something else.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael,
Thanks for noticing, I just did that yesterday. I used PageBlaster to create a tag that loads the Adsense into the page, then I placed the tag into my TopicsView, TopicView, and Forum templates.

You could probably do it without PageBlaster by just adding the code to the ActiveForums templates directly, but PageBlaster helps me to organize it and create a nice little token.

I plan on doing a full writeup after I put in another feature for PageBlaster today.

Can it be done with the free version of PageBlaster? Our group just purchased the Enterprise Version of ActiveForums and we are a little low on cash until I get that first Google check.

Thanks,

Michael

I believe the Enterprise version of ActiveForums has Banner Ad support.

I'm pretty sure you could do it by just putting your adsense code in the TopicView template though.

The following is the instructions on how to use Banner Ads in ActiveForums 3.7:
Banner Injection
Enterprise and Professional offer the option of introducing banners into the TopicView template. To turn
this on you must use the Vendors within DNN. Ensure that you have banners turned on for your site in the
site settings. Setup your vendor information and add a banner. The banner must be of the group
“FORUMS”. You can now include the [BANNER] token into the TopicsView template. You will also need to
make sure you have the selected the TopicsView template from the drop down box in the Forum Settings.

I've set things up according to the above I think...

I've enabled Banners on my site and created a Vendor. I've created 3 new banners labeled forum1, forum2 and forum3 in the "FORUMS" group. Note: I've done all of this at the Host level and not the Admin level.

I've gone through each forum and assigned the TopicView and TopicsView template.

I just don't know what to do from here. I know I need to edit the TopicsView template but I just don't know how to use the token.

Any help will be appreciated,

Michael

I, too, am a big fan of the leaderboard ads, or whatever you call them.  ;) I asked about this very same technique in the DNN forums, but was told it might be considered further down to the roadmap...way, way down the road.  I got the idea from another forum where they add google or affiliate ads immediately after the initial post...for everyone. They also made it so the same area has an edit space where members can also add relevant information and edit the post, save the hard-wired ads.

Nice touch, John.

I've been on the fence toward migrating to ActiveForums, given the multiple problems with the core forums and lack of features I am looking for (and are incorporated into the Active module), so this will probably push me over the top and move in that direction in the not-too-distant future.

I am not sure (please check), but I remember having seen on Google conditions that adsense can not be used on forum...
