Hello,

In an attempt to remove some DLL bloat what would happen if I removed the entry from DotNetNuke.Authentication.ADSI it's associated assemblies?

I don't use AD for my authentication.

Thanks in advance,

Ben

Good idea, nothing will happen if you are not using AD Authentication.

Thanks John.  I've removed and everything seems to be working.  I also took out XML Logging ( I use DB ) and User's Online ( don't use it... ).

Is there any other dlls that I can remove?  I have a pretty basic setup, just seems like a ton of dlls.

I can't think of any others off the top of my head unless you have modules installed that you are not using.

Hi,

Trying hard to fight the bloat... you're the first person that has been able to help with what some of these entries actually do.

Been searching and can't seem to locate what the following provider  actually does AspNetMembershipProvider

Also, the FileBasedCachingProvider provider section has two options

FileBasedCachingProvider

BroadcastPollingCachingProvider

Do you know which options they are linked two?

You need ASPNetMembership. That is used for user login, profile and roles.

FileBasedCachingProvider and BroadCastPollingCaching provider are used for Web Farm scenarios. I don't think you can remove the FileBasedCachingProvider though because it is also used for persistent caching.

What would happen if I removed BroadCastPollingCaching ? Do you think it would have an negative effect?

That could safely be removed. It is not even used unless you set it in the web.config.

Thanks John.  With your help, managed to get rid of approx 10 dlls.  Sometimes doesn't make sense to load the Swiss Army knife when all you ever do is spread  butter.

LOL - That's a great analogy. And a problem with DNN that gets worse with every release.
