Okay, I've setup a new parent portal off of my main DNN installation that has a different topic from the main portal, however, some of the users of the main site will be users of the parent portal. I've just discovered that users of the main portal cannot register in the second parent portal using the same UserID and email address. (I did have unique email set to true). Is there a workaround for this? I've found some very old posts about it but not any real solutions. Thanks, Michael www.sgchs.us

I have heard that some people use a trigger to add users to more than one portal and there are modules available for sharing users across portals. What I do is just create my different sections of the site with different skins and navigation and use the same portal.

What I want is for a user to not know both sites are hosted within the same DNN and have to register on both. However, DNN will not let them register using the same id they used on the other portal. Is there a workaround for this? Thanks, Michael www.sgchs.us

Ok, so your goal is to allow them to sign up on different portals using the same user ID, but without having that same user id be the same user. Like they were in two different DNN instances. That is not supported. You'll have to create another instance of DNN. If you wanted to modify some core code you could probably make it work by adding the portalId to the userID in the database procedures.

Thanks. My users will just have to think someone else already has their user id. I did change the email setting to allow the same email address to be used so this should make things a little more accepting. Thanks, Michael (www.sgchs.us)
