Okay, against my better judgment I upgraded the blog after my 4.5.5 upgrade (which went pretty good; thanks for all the info in the forums, John). Now I have a few minor issues that I am too drained to search (I won't get up on my soapbox about the DNN search tonight; ibid), to post in the forums, and wait for replies.

Therefore, I was wondering if you guys actually use the blog for projects or use a 3rd party solution?  I did try Scott's news articles, but there are a few little stylistic things I can't change (like people have to click on the article to view standalone before they can rate the post, though the post doesn't consume more that the details will hold, etc). I'm still playing with it, as I think it's way more powerful and has some sweet features, but just wondering what the industry standard is nowadays.  :)

I still think this is one big open beta test and a conspiracy to get me to buy 3rd party modules, which I am now doing at the drop of a proverbial dime the next time something bundled with the core breaks.  Blogs acting funny after the upgrade?  Gone.  I am too drained.  :) Forums acting up?  Gone.  :) I guess the old adage still holds.

Funny you should mention blogs.  I was using dasBlogs for blogging at http://blogs.snapsis.com but decided I would rather use the forums since they are better suited for a discussion after the initial post.

And this weekend I am working on an add-on to ActiveForums to make it work even more like a real blog.

There's not another alternative for a good blog that I know of.

Alot of people use Ventian's News Articles for their blogs. I unfortunetly use the core module, and have too much content to switch to another blog solution.

Take a look at Mitchel Seller's Blog with a simple solution to migrate from the core blog module to Scott's news articles.  :)  I haven't tried it, but I have been meaning to create a development page and play around with it to see if I can pull it off, should I decide to go this route.

Thank you!! Exactly what I'm looking for! I'm testing our migration from 3.3.x to 4.x so I'll add this to the list of our migration. Again THANKS!
