Keeping consistent with my theme this week, I am wondering if you could recommend an alternative to the announcement module, John?  :)

Truth be told, I have no problem with the DNN core module and it works fine, but I am looking for something with a little more pizazz! Perhaps it's how much space is left between posts or the inability to rate posts, or something just not doing it for me.

What I like about the core module is the time sensitive setting, insofar as I can display a post for a certain amount of time, then have it removed without human intervention. I tried Scott's News Articles, which is a little more than I need, but there were a few things that didn't do it for me, either. I also checked Snowcovered for an alternative and didn't see what I am looking for, though there is a NewsTicker with scrolling and static options, which might be dressed up to suffice (unless scrolling text is too 1998'ish).

Perhaps even a high-powered links module...not quite sure. :) I am posting affiliate deals, codes, et al, so the time setting is huge, as I hate to have to monitor postings and remove them manually.

I just wondering if you have come across something to handle such a job....

[edit] Now that I think about it, perhaps a links module with tooltips or something like that? ...just wondering what else is out there that people might use in place of the announcement module.

You may not be surprised at my answer on this, but ActiveForums allows you to make announcements, and also set times. You can also use the TopPosts module that comes with it to display the announcement summaries on a different page, and it also has RSS.

Outstanding! I am just waiting for them to return to the office and respond to my "When will 3.8 hit the streets?" question...definately going with their product.

Since it does everything else I want it to do and more, I am assuming you can use the 'star rating' feature for the individual announcements, too?

After doing my homework, I was on the fence with this one, but the economist in me had a hard time quantifying $39.95 of utility from an announcement module, despite my affinity for purchasing 3rd-party modules. :)

That looks like a very nice module. I had not seen it before, but anytime a module has template capabilities it takes it to the next level and makes it very versatile in my opinion.

Still, it doesn't really do more than Active Forums can do, so getting more out of one module may be the way to go.
