Hey, stranger!  :)

Though my lame blog is merely fodder for Google with a bunch of ramblings and keywords and internal links sprinkled around, I would like to migrate the content from the DNN core blog into my new site and populate the new blog...to prime the site.

You think there's a simple query to run to pull these data out? I was poking around looking for the table, thinking I could simply cut and paste the content in the respective column, but figured it would be easier to do some SELECT WHERE crud...hell, cutting and pasting the 20-30 entries from the actual site would be easier than digging in the db, too. :)

I was going to post and ask in the DNN forums, but, well, you know... lol

Now that I think about it, the garbage on my current blog is not germane to the new site, so I think I'll just let the entries on the DNN blog die on the vine. :)

Sorry I didn't get to this sooner, or maybe that is a good thing ;)

Is your new Database in MySQL? If so you would have been better off copying and pasting entries. Even if they were both in SQL Server I think I would have just did the copy and paste for the ones that needed to move.

I hope your having fun with your new site. Feel free to tell us all about it here. I may get some good ideas out of it.

Go Packers? You bet!

Yes, sir, MySQL, for better or for worse.

As for the new site, yea, I am really digging the platform, though a few things are more convoluted than they need to be (having to create sections and categories and "menu items," rather than "pages," per se).

The biggest thing I miss from DNN is the "new" button to create a page, then the drop-down to throw modules on there and the drop&drag placement...really slick system.

However, I no longer cross my fingers and hope and pray that installs/upgrades go smoothly; if you haven't ever (or not in awhile) installed Joomla, you should take it for a test drive to see how the other half lives nowadays. I am so impressed with the installation process; in fact, during my learning process, I install it, play around and try to get my head wrapped around the premise, uninstall it, start over, wash, repeat. I swear I could get the install down to under 3 minutes if it weren't for Winzip taking its sweet time to unzip the files. Well, actually, I got smart and have my practice folder of RC4 uncompressed already to use for each install, and have, in fact, reduced the install time to under 2 minutes (includes setting up a new db). :)

What impresses me most, aside from the beautiful installation processes, is the strict CSS/XHTML compliance out of the box, the templating system, the graphical interface, the speed (having pure CSS tableless templates sure helps, of course), the 'polished-out-of-the-box" system that works flawlessly...beutiful URLS and improved SEF...could go on for days. And knowing my love of forums, don't get me started talking about wrapping the latest PHPBB3 forums into my sites...oh my god are they perfect with an equally impressive installation interface. :)

...not that there is anything wrong with the DNN default blue skin that installs failing WC3 validation and needs a lot of core tweaks to get it performing like most people want it; to each their own. :)

As a Dolphin fan (I only admit that now that have a win under their belt), I appreciate the old man heading to the playoffs and would love to see him go out like Elway (well, one win, not two), rather than go out like my man, Dan. In fact, I made my pilgrimage to Lambeau last year (when they got blown-out by the Jets at home in December) just to touch the statue and see greatness line up under center and pay my respects to the man. What a year for you guys and much deserved.

PS...could see a PPHP need in the future - PageBlasterPHP!!!! Come to the dark side, John.  It's your destiny. Unlike the other community, they would welcome you and your talents with open source arms!  :)
