John,

I finally got around to addressing this today. I put the core compression file back in the /bin directory and added the reference in my web.config, and all was well again - I was able to go into the host settings and individually removed the previous request filters I put in (just 3-4 IP addresses), then toggled the request filter off. Once finished, I removed the core compression dll and the reference in the web.config....and right back where I was before....no host settings, just renders a blank page.

Any ideas?

The Host>Host Settings page is blank, or the SiteMap.aspx page? The SiteMap page needs to be excluded from PageBlaster since it's output type is XML. It seems that we had this conversation before though ;)

Deja vu all over again? :)

Well, yea, the sitemap is blank, but I moved on from that one, as the exception pattern thingy is already in the config, yet still doesn't render, but no biggie...

The host settings page is blank. I dropped just the compression dll back in just now WITHOUT a reference to it in the web.config and it is displaying the host settings page perfectly again.  Previously, I added both the dll and the web.config reference, removed the request filters I had previously set prior to installing PB, untoggled the request filter in the host settings, then removed the web.config reference and the dll and was back to being blank...and still returning the request filter error though none are set.

I went back in just now, simply added the http compression dll and no web.config line and it's back, so something must still be utilizing the http compression dll when I try to access the host settings page?

...but point well-taken. Perhaps I need to lay off the German beer and dry out before returning stateside next week. :)

Oh, I see now that we are on page two of this thread, I looked at the title to try and understand which file you were talking about.

Ok, now that we are figuratively and literally on the same page, I think what you need to do is remove the DotNetNuke.config file from the root.

I renamed the DNN config to dotnetnuke.config.bak, but nothing changed: I am only able to render the host settings when I drop the http.compression dll back in the /bin, though no reference to it is in the web.config. :)

I get the following error in my event log when I try to access the host settings:

Hmm, I don't understand why it would be trying to find that DLL if the Request Filter is not enabled, but it won't hurt to leave it in /bin folder.

Good call; thanks, John...was just about to ask if leaving it in the bin folder would pose problems even if there isn't a reference to it in my web.config.
