Skins not previewing

After uploading a new CSS skin, I went to host>skins, selected the new skin on the dropdown menu and was greeted with outlines of all seven new pages, but with no details. Each grey block appeared under the correct page name, but inside each block was the messsage, "Image not available." Of course, I couldn't preview the pages, and I didn't dare apply them. Am I bundling the skin files in the wrong order when I zip them? -- Jim

John - More details that might help you diagnose the problem: When I use the file manager to look at the content of my skins file, I don't see any of the .html or .css files that were uploaded. I just see .jpegs. In fact, there are a couple of .gifs that are also missing. -- Jim

Hi Jim, When you zip your skin for upload you need to be sure that the main skin is not zipped inside a folder. In other words when you unzip it, the files will go automatically into a folder with the name of the zip file. This folder is created for you by DNN. Most, of the samples with skins included in the package do not have the preview images. But those are just a “nice to have” on your finished skin and not a requirement. The samples also do not use HTML skins with Tokens, they are .ASCX skins that do not need to be uploaded and converted. The good thing about using the .ascx skins along with CSS is that you can just copy the skin folder to the “skins” directory of any portal and it will work. No zipping & uploading required, plus you can copy/move them to different folders without breaking them.

John - Okay, so if I understand this correctly, the hierarchy for the zip file is: 1) Zip file with a descriptive name for the skin (can be of my making), containing ... 2) skin files (html) that came with the skins package that I purchased, and ... 3) images folder included in the skins package. Should I take the image files out of the images folder before I zip? By the way, it took me a couple of tries to get comfortable with the DNN file manager and notice that I had more than one page of files. My prior skin uploads did produce the .ascx files, and they appeared in the same directory as the .jpeg and other support files. Best wishes, Jim
