I didnt see this in the developer book - is there a way to specify the provider for the menu?

Hi Dylan,
I'm not sure what you mean.
The menu itself could be considered an alternate provider, but it is not developed using the DNN provider interface.

Well for examplle in SolPart and the DNN nav menus i can add a ProviderName attribute and it will pull the data for the tabs from that data provider instead of DNNs default provider - can i do that with this menu?

The tab information is all pulled from the DNN internal object called DesktopTabs which is populated from the core Data provider.
Are you wanting to get the tab information from a different database? Maybe something in Oracle? If so, then this menu does not have that feature.
If you are talking about changing the default navigation provider in the DNN web.config
< navigationControl defaultProvider="SolpartMenuNavigationProvider" >
then that is also *not* possible with this Skin Object.
