I've been banging my head against the wall on this one...

I have copied the code from the Developer's Guide into a skin I am working on:

However, no matter what I do, the children keep showing up in the ParentTabs level... I've tried with and without the included CSS example but can not get rid of them. I've attempted putting the names in the "Exclude Tabs" section, but it doesn't bother unless I name a parent-level item and then it takes out the whole section.

An example page hierarchy is:

  • Home
  • About Us
    • History
    • Service
  • Your New Home
    • Overview
    • etc
    • etc
  • So On...
  • ... and so forth...
Fairly simple 2 level navigation, but for the life of me, this has me stumped...

Now, I do feel the need to mention that I am having to develop this on a 3.2.2 server at the moment, and I am unsure if this is maybe a bug related to the fact that I'm using an outdated DNN installation.

Thanks for any help!

Hi SB,

You may just need to specify the ending range on the level. If you have level="0" in the settings, change it to Level="0-0".
This was not needed in some of the earlier versions of the menu, but is needed now to support recurse, and only showing specific levels on child menus.
If you leave the upper range off it now assumes that to mean infinity.

The only other issue we're running into now is the implementation of a fly-out effect. I had read in another post that this is not the in the nature of NavMenu, and it would probably require some custom JS scripting. Any pointers or links you may have handy for such a task?

Thanks again!

Basically, we're trying to replicate this menu in DNN (customer is quite adamant about this look) http://www.marquiscustomhomes.com

Thanks

I'm actually going to be creating a new menu that is CSS and JS based and does flyouts for Skincovered.com subscribers this month.

It is an adaption of the Suckertree vertical menu.

That menu on the Marquis site is pretty cool, if only it wern't flash.

I bet that could be done with Javascript, but neither flash, or javascript used like that are SEO friendly, so you would need it to render different for spiders.

My project supervisor has also asked me to ask if you know of any interim solutions that may work... I was thinking HouseOfNuke but it always crashes my installations so I'm hoping I can avoid that.

Heh, same thing we said and we're hoping on making life easier for the spiders.

There is another SEO CSS Menu on Snowcovered. I think it does flyouts, but I could be wrong.

I can also send you the source code for the Snapsis CSS NavMenu if you want.
