I am shopping for a menu module/skin object to produce the kind of left menu on this site. I would appreciate knowing if NavMenu could do this (I looked at the developer's guide and demos but can't tell for sure). The key features I need are:

Menu expands to any number of levels (in practise will be less than 5 levels)
Each level is indented further than the parent
The child pages of the current page are shown
Each page has a bullet (a GIF) before the page name
The current page has a different bullet and text style than the other pages

Other menu modules/skin objects I have looked at have trouble handling the bullet. Can NavMenu do this ?

Thx

Hi,

Yes, NavMenu can handle those requirements.  You should be able to do it with the built-in "Tabs" type menu. I can't see the site correctly, I think it is Japanese and not displaying like it should for me.  What you describe should be fairly easy to reproduce though.

Another property is called OnlyExpandActive which allows the menu to display the child items of only the currently active parent.

I have also just introduced the Template type of menu which allows you to completly configure the ouput.  What this means is that if you see a menu somewhere, it can be recreated with the Snapsis NavMenu.

As always, if you need some help making it happen you can get it here.

Thanks for you interest.

Thanks. One other question - I have heard some reports that on some Macs the native DNN SolPart menu doesn't work. Do you know what the problem is and if NavMenu works on Macs?

All browsers are a little different in the way they render, but the output of the built-in types is simple unordered lists with most of the configuration being done in CSS so you can't have any better chance for them to work on as many browsers as posible.

Also, with the new template type the output is completely configurable so there is no limitation from the NavMenu standpoint of being able to support any browser. That being said I wouldn't even try to support IE5.5 and below on a Mac. That browser has had support dropped for it several years ago and is sub-standard.

John,

I'm pretty sure your nav will do everything I need, but I wanted to make sure (since I thought the stock DNN menu *should* be able to do what I need).

I think what I need is a vertical menu with children with "OnlyExpandActive" flagged.  Can you show me an example of this?
Thanks again,
