Main Menu Background Control w/ Sub Menus

I have a background defined when hovering over the main and all sub menus. When a sub menu is displayed, regardless of the sublevel, I would like to persist the background on the main menu and, if possible, the parent sub menu item as well. Can this be accomplished with the Nav CSS Menu module in DNN? Thanks in advance.
