I have finally figured out why some of the pages on my site http://www.TableTennisStore.us is crawling slow. I use the shopping cart software CATALookStore. I really like CATALookStore by considering its price and its functionalities.

After doing numerous tests with the CATALookStore modules today morning, I have found out that the module CATAItemPane_NF with default parameters to display the welcome page and other panes like 'new releases', 'last viewed products' etc... is damn slow - takes at least 15 seconds to load up. However the same module with search (check box at the top of its options) 'options settings' is pretty fast. To confirm my theory, I removed the module from my store home page. Alas! The page comes up fast. The login is fast also because I redirect to the store home page after login.

I'm wondering why the Page Blaster is not helping me here to speed up my store home page. If you want to see what is happening, go to the site http://www.TableTennisStore.us and click the STORE menu from the top. You will see at least few seconds for the page to load up. Now select any page like ALL SHIRTS from the ALL STORES menu. You will see the page loads up fast. I use the same CATAItemPane_NF on both the pages, but the one on the store page is with default parameters while the module on the ALL SHIRTS page is with a search.

I do see where that page is taking a lot longer to build. Possibly because of the large number of categories in that menu.

PageBlaster should help, but I do not see it enabled on your site right now.

I tried to login through FTP again and I still can't get in.  I sent you a private message with the details.

I do agree that a lot of categories make a page slow. I have the same menus on other pages like ALL SHORTS. But ALL SHORTS or other pages are slow as the STORE PAGE which is set to run the CATALookStore welcome page.

I have created a new FTP and have PMed you. Thanks.

Ok, I was able to connect with Visual Studio.

I re-enabled PageBlaster and everything looks to be working correctly.
The Store page is much faster now, and the Home page is really fast.

I did notice that your website seems to be restarting very often which will also slow it down.
You may want to check to see if you are exceeding some threshold (like memory) that makes it restart so often.

Thanks John. I will verify the performance later.

I think the hosting company has set some recycle policies. I will talk to them to find out the reason.

I've noticed the STORE page http://www.tabletennisstore.us/Store/tabid/129/List/1/Default.aspx is faster now. Still I'm noticing the page is getting hold up for few more seconds.

Do you think I can get more speed by making a static page of that store page?

I don't think having it be a static page will make much difference. As long as it is coming from the PageBlaster cache then it is basically static already.

It seems to be some Javascript that is running at the end. Maybe it is that google talk service, or maybe it is the build-out of the javascript based menu.

Thanks John. I'm seeing over all performance difference. I have spoken to the hosting company to have a look at theire recycle strategy.
