I just went to look at the hits in the SiteLog table and I haven't had one in the past 7 days. Google Analytics disagrees.  This date was just  was just about when I installed PageBlaster.

Is this a result of the cached pages being used?  Is this an accident of timing and I should investigate further and track down the true cause?  I would have thought that since I am looked in some times and the cache must timeout once in a while that I would have see some hits.

Yes, PageBlaster will hide most of your hits in the SiteLog and that confirms that it is working. I would expect you to have a few hits in there as pages expire and get re-cached though.

The SiteLog should also record any logged in users unless you are also caching authenticated users with PageBlaster.

I wouldn't be too concerned and I actually recommend turning off the SiteLog and using an external web analytics program for performance reasons.

My SiteLog issue actually came from a suggestion that to speed up DNN one should have the logs go to a file, and I had done that about the same time I installed PageBlaster.  I switch back and my SiteLog is logging again.

I concur with John: if you have Google analytics installed, turn off the site log. it just takes up CPU cycles/disk space and doesn't give a quarter the information that Google will.

I agree that its usefulness is limited, but it does tell you things that Google Analytics doesn't

  • Which spiders are indexing your site. I am amazed at the number, location, and owners of these spiders. before PageBlaster they accounted for more than have of my page hits.
  • If new keepalive/monitoring sites that you have set up are still monitoring your site.
  • Which users are actually logging in.
  • And IF the sitelog had IP names rather than numbers, I might know more about who was using my site.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if my ISP makes the IIS log available - I'll have to ask.  I assume that PageBlaster has no effect on them.

That is correct. PageBlaster does not affect the IIS logs.
